my next door neighbour used to be a sushi factory. it was amazing. i never had any trouble with noise or anti-social behaviour. all i got was a welcome scent of teriyaki every now and then. i began to associate the smell of teriyaki with home - in the same way that i used to associate the smell of hops with home when i lived next to the tetley brewery in leeds. it was all very nice. but now they’re knocking it down and building flats and i get woken up every morning at 8am by a pneumatic drill. OK maybe i shouldn’t still be asleep at 8am but this is the one time in my life that i can lie in if i want to and that choice has been taken away from me and it’s darn mean.
